![]() This Monday we are catching up with Jackson Algiers who is part of the UABSOD Class of 2023! Jackson was a swimmer at Birmingham Southern College. “I started swimming before I was 10. I was in swim lessons and then moved to club swimming and loved it.” His favorite part of swimming are the friendships you make along the way and how good you feel after a good practice. Some of his favorite memories about swimming include the weeklong training trips he went on in college. “We would go to Miami and train in an outdoor pool. While we were not swimming, we would hang out at the beach. It was a fun way to get in good shape after the holidays and also reset for the next semester.” Sometimes you may find Jackson at the UAB Rec Center Pool doing some laps. “I usually try to make sure I swim 2-3 times per week. It loosens me up and stretches me out after being in various positions in PCD lab. Personally, I think it is easier to get a workout done in the in the morning as opposed to after school.” When asked what his biggest advice for someone wanting to start swimming, he suggested just starting. “The hardest part is making the decision to go. Anyone can get a lot out of it no matter their skill level, and there is always room to improve, no matter how good you are.”
